something a little more aluring?

I thought I had a shot of the car with the hopper tipped but I must have deleted that shot from the camera, and it's late enough for me to claim laziness. I'll be back at the car later for more detailing and I'll get the shot then.

As the title says...

I'm fairly pleased with this little car so far. It's entirely scratchbuilt using only card, paper, and some balsa wood for materials. The only thing I've not built myself are the wheels (these are some old Life-Like brand HO scale wheels).

Inspired by the creativity going on over at Gn15.info I couldn't help but want to create something on my own. Here it is (so far)...

transfer table

A new model for myself is this little Gn15 transfer table. It will be part of a small diorama I am working on...

here's another all time favourite

This one I would build in Nn3. I'd love to see a pair of little steam engines working together to get through those switchbacks...

i still really like

I created this layout design some time ago for a model railway builder in the United States. We were never able to get together on this one. It was a real shame as I really enjoyed working with him, and I keep coming back to this plan.

I can't remember the scale, but it was probably a HO layout. Meant to be a suburban, commuter style, theme. I pictured it littered with all forms of commuter equipment. I'd like to build it someday.

spamming

Looking through the blog it appears that I am getting spammed by someone who obviously has more time on their hands then the ability to be constructive. I want to strongly urge you to not use links posted in any blog post that I've not put up here. It's always interesting to see what the latest spam is, wish I could write back...

flat motor

I've been working on a 1/87 scale model of Lake Shore Electric flat motor #404. Based on an original drawing in the Carstens Publications book. I was having trouble interpreting the drawing, so I thought I might try and build a quick 3d model in CAD, then interpret my model based on that. Here's what I have so far...

servo bracket

Just playing around with a servo bracket idea I had. The real thing is not that big, but I thought I would work out. The picture here is the AutoCAD drawing with a little photo editing (filters) applied. I liked how it worked out and like the brake caliper shot I uploaded elsewhere, I wanted to share it for it's artistic merit more than anything else.

One new years resolution was to actually start cleaning up my drawing folder, and try creating one new image per day for my own library.

For the most part, it's updating the image and adding to a stock collection. The big drawing card for all of us when we started digital drafting was the "cut and paste" aspect, funny how after time, you don't import blocks from particular drawings, more I find I have about a dozen drawing sets that I am constantly referring to. It's frustrating, and starting here, the clean-up begins.

I want to start some new shelving for my own home, and I am planning some units that will be very simply in design. Shelving cabinets: tall, short shelves, but high, and to carry low loads. I'm thinking of just something as primitive as 3/4" gables with some simple 1/8" Masonite shelves rabbeted in. Cheap as chips and done quickly (thereby freeing my up for more important tasks).

I found the font on this drawing lately, and I love it. It's not practical for shop drawings, but it's fun to use for applications like this.

Back to the drawing board!

One last shot of Jenny

Found this while searching through photo files on the computer for something completely different. I can't begin to express how much I miss this car, and what I'd give to get in and go for a run this evening.

It's so silly to get attached to "things", but I've always had a soft spot for cars, and in a way, I can't help but observe a cars ability to reflect my life, and represent my identity at that time. I do feel a little lost without this machine, hopefully the wagon will soon start to fill a space in my heart without reminding me too much of a certain other, more orange, wagon...

C&LE trailer cars in N scale

I am working on some models for my own interurban inspired layout in N scale. A couple of evenings ago, I started a model of a Cincinnati & Lake Erie trailer car. I'm really pleased with how this project has progressed so far, and I am trying to do a little on it every evening to see that momentum on the project does not slow.

Here are a couple of shots of the work so far, one to show the car as it is now, and a second to show my method of constructing rail car shells, basically to work from the letterboard down to the floor, and the up to the roof.
